Redmond Proficiency Academy (RPA) is redefining education by putting students at the center of their learning experience. As a public charter school committed to proficiency and personalization, RPA’s innovative, collegiate-style model allows students to take an active role in shaping their academic journey.

“At RPA, learning is the constant, and time is the variable,” says Hallie Caron, proficiency programs assistant director. “We recognize that students learn in different ways and at different paces, so we provide the flexibility and support they need to thrive.”

Technology-driven learning for a digital world

RPA seamlessly integrates technology into daily instruction and student activities, ensuring equitable access to digital resources. The school’s 1:1 student Chromebook program enables students to engage with coursework anytime, anywhere.

“Nearly all of our classes use digital platforms to provide open access to learning materials,” Caron explains. “We’ve developed 20 independent study courses and leverage a variety of online resources to create a flexible and accessible education.”

Along with Alma, RPA also uses Google Classroom and interactive tools like Edgenuity, IXL, Gizmos, and Khan Academy to continually encourage students to explore digital resources that enhance their education. The school is also embracing AI and emerging technologies, providing opportunities for students and staff to navigate the evolving digital landscape.

What sets RPA apart

RPA’s unique approach is built on proficiency-based learning, where students advance by demonstrating mastery rather than being bound by rigid timelines. This allows them to move at their own pace and explore learning pathways tailored to their strengths, interests, and future goals.

Students at RPA benefit from:

  • A flexible, college-style schedule, allowing them to design their own educational experience.
  • A variety of course offerings, including AP, Pre-AP, and essential skills courses that cater to individual learning needs.
  • Dual credit opportunities through partnerships with a local community college, giving students a head start on higher education.
  • A focus on personalization, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning and explore their passions.

“Our goal is to empower students to take charge of their education,” says Caron. “By providing a proficiency-based model, diverse course options, and digital learning tools, we’re preparing students not just for graduation, but for lifelong success.”

With a mission to create an engaging, flexible, and student-driven learning environment, RPA is shaping the future of education by giving students the freedom and responsibility to thrive on their own terms.
